They said they were going to get the game when they got home. All and all, a very good entertainment value. My two great nephew spent about 5-6 hours playing each other over a recent 24 hour period. Based on a very limited recent experience Blazing Angels would appear to appeal to a wide range of ages.
Dunkirk evacuation, Battle of Britain.)., mini camppaign/sorties and one-on-one duels/dogfights against another gamer. The planes can be flown using various configurations and combinations of the Wii remote and nunchuk controls; i.e. Blazing Angels for the Wii has provided many hours of adrenaline producing fun as a WWII pilot flying various aircraft of the era on one of 7 major campaigns (e.g.
turn right/left, pitch up/down, speed up/down, alternative views, machine guns, bomb/torpedo release.Although I am still working through the game future enhancements might include options for even more realistic plane control, tactile feedback through the Wii remote and more campaigns. ENJOY Coming from a background of being older, a former single engine private and glider pilot and relative new to the Wii experience the combination of the historical context (WII history, air campaigns, & plane attributes) and combat simulations makes for an addictive (i.e.
"let's do it one more time") experience. One can have fun with the game almost from the start as you go through "flight training" learning to "fly" the aircraft and taking out basic targets.
Also when you get to the Battle of Midway it gets really hard because you have to kill so many planes in such a short period of time. My 8 and 6 yr old daughters have no problem flying. (actually shooting stuff down is a little more rare for them however). The only cons for the game I have is that their is no internet play, and you can't go back and do indivual missions from the campaign again. This is a pretty fun game for messing around. That's where I'm stuck right now. The gameplay is more for the casual player rather than one who likes a hardcore simulator. The controls are wonderful, the graphics are good. The controls take a bit to get used to, but they are pretty intuitive.
The story line is long, probably 15 or so missions, with some being quite challenging, especially landing a broken aircraft. Are the flight controls fun, absolutley. Don't worry about what this game isn't and enjoy it for what it is. The bottom line is, for Wii and for $20, this game is pretty fun, especially if you like flight sims or World War 2. Will you be amazed by the graphics, no.
One thing that frustrates me is that you can not exit the game and save your progress within a campaign. After each mission new planes get unlocked for you to use, Spitfire with cannons so far my favorite. All in all I am really enjoying this game. I got this game for my new Wii because it seemed like the best flying game out there from reading other reviews. If you exit out in the middle of a campaign you have to start that campaign over again, there are no incremental saves. The control configuration that I felt worked best was using the nun chuck to fly the planes and the controller for speed and communication. I really like this game and the fun part of it is that it is not always easy and it will take multiple tries to get past a campaign. The graphics are pretty decent.
Graphics are good. using the controller and nunchuk is fairly realistic. Plays much better than I expected for this type of game on the WII. Fun Game. Similar to weapons over Normandy.
